About Yamato Transport

Yamato Transport, known for its black cat logo (Kuroneko) and its TA-Q-BIN delivery service, is Japan’s largest domestic parcel carrier by market share, according to Yamato.

Yamato’s TA-Q-BIN service takes parcels from Size 60 to Size 200, which Yamato describes as a linear dimension of up to 200 cm and a weight of up to 30 kg. Senders can choose a delivery time range and drop parcels off at Yamato Sales Offices or convenience stores. If the waybill names a Sales Office as the destination, Yamato keeps the parcel there for the recipient to pick up. For International TA-Q-BIN, Yamato’s tracking ends when the parcel reaches the freight forwarder in Japan; after that, Yamato says to ask the delivery company in the destination country.

Kargo Radar checks Yamato’s English tracking page. That page lists each event and its time but not the branch name, so events on Kargo Radar may have no location.

What do Yamato tracking numbers look like?

You’ll find the tracking number on the label, the shipping receipt or the shipping details the sender gave you. The examples below only show the format.

Yamato tracking number

Example format

1234-5678-9012

A 12-digit number printed at the top right of the waybill. You can type it with or without dashes.

If you received an Attempted Delivery Notice, the waybill number printed on it can be tracked too.

Is the carrier detected automatically?

Yamato numbers contain only digits and look like other carriers’ numbers, so Yamato isn’t detected automatically. Choose Yamato Transport from the carrier list; the form on this page already has it selected.

How to track Yamato packages with Kargo Radar

See where your package is in a few steps, and hear about it when the status changes.

  1. 01

    Enter the number

Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. The form already has Yamato selected and takes you straight to the results.

  2. 02

    Pick the carrier

Yamato numbers look like other carriers’ numbers, so Kargo Radar doesn’t guess. Choose Yamato from the carrier list in the app or on the tracking page.

  3. 03

    Follow every event

Each scan is listed on a timeline with its date (and time, when the carrier provides one), and the overall status is summarized as one of six standard statuses.

  4. 04

    Get notified

Save the package to your list in the Kargo Radar app and you’ll get a notification on your phone when its status changes. Packages from other carriers sit in the same list.

What do the tracking statuses mean?

Kargo Radar turns each carrier’s own status wording into six standard statuses, so packages from different carriers read the same way. Each event keeps the carrier’s own description in the history, or an English rendering for carriers that only report in their local language.

Shipped
The carrier has registered the shipment or picked it up from the sender. It may not have left yet.
In transit
The package is moving between facilities, countries or customs.
Out for delivery
The package is out for delivery, or it’s waiting to be collected at a branch, post office or pickup point.
Delivered
The package was handed to the recipient or collected from the pickup point.
Delivery failed
A delivery was attempted but not completed. The carrier’s next step shows up in the event history.
Returned
The package is on its way back to the sender, or it has already been returned.

Yamato customer support

Yamato has English support at 0120-67-9625, or 03-6834-7503 if the toll-free number is hard to reach, plus an online inquiry form. If a parcel hasn’t arrived and there’s no notice, check any delivery lockers, then contact Yamato as soon as possible.

Damage claims also go through the form. Yamato’s deadline is 14 days after the parcel arrives, and it may refuse compensation if it can’t confirm the parcel’s condition, so keep everything. Booking a redelivery or reporting damage has to happen with Yamato directly, because Kargo Radar simply displays the status.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Yamato packages.

How do I track a Yamato package?

Paste your 12-digit tracking number into the form on this page, with or without the dashes. Kargo Radar looks it up with Yamato and lists each event with its date and time in Japan time.

What does “Tracking Number Not Registered” mean?

Yamato has no shipping status for this number. The package may not have been handed over yet, or its history may have expired: Yamato shows tracking for about 90 days from the shipping date.

What does “Incorrect Tracking Number” mean?

Yamato says the tracking number is incorrect, which usually means a typo. Compare all 12 digits with your receipt or the sender’s message.

Where do I find my Yamato tracking number?

Senders find the 12-digit number at the top right of the waybill. If you’re the recipient, ask the sender for it or use the number on the Attempted Delivery Notice.

What does “Hold at Yamato (Consignee Not Available)” mean?

Yamato says the parcel was taken back to the Sales Office because nobody was there to receive it, and it’s now held at the nearest Sales Office. Yamato asks you to request redelivery through its contact form or by phone. A parcel can go back to the sender if the holding period runs out.

Why does Yamato show a different delivery time from the one I chose?

Yamato’s tracking can show two times. The Scheduled Delivery Date and Time is what was requested when the parcel was shipped, and the Desired Delivery Date and Time is the latest one after a change request. Yamato says updates take some time to appear after a change, and traffic can make delivery in the chosen time window impossible.

Is Yamato tracking free?

Yes. Tracking on Kargo Radar is free and doesn’t require an account. Save the package in the app to get a notification when its status changes.
