Canada Post (Postes Canada) is Canada’s national postal service. It delivers letters and packages across the country and exchanges international mail with postal services abroad.
Canada Post is a Crown corporation whose only shareholder is the Government of Canada. The tracking number is printed on your receipt or on the package, but Canada Post notes that it doesn’t appear on the receipt for prepaid products, and that it can’t look a number up for you if you’ve lost it. For a package coming to Canada whose status doesn’t show up in Track, Canada Post asks you to contact the sender.
For items mailed from Canada, the Canada Post record often continues in the destination country with customs and delivery events. Items mailed to Canada from other countries can often be looked up with Canada Post using the sender’s tracking number.
You’ll find the tracking number on the label, the shipping receipt or the shipping details the sender gave you. The examples below only show the format.

A 16-digit number made up of digits only.
Copy the number exactly as it appears on your receipt or label. Spaces don’t matter.
International numbers ending in CA are recognized automatically and looked up with Canada Post; in the app they’re saved as “International Post.” The 16-digit numbers look like other carriers’ numbers, so choose Canada Post for those; the form on this page already has it selected.
See where your package is in a few steps, and hear about it when the status changes.
Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. The form already has Canada Post selected and takes you straight to the results.
Some Canada Post numbers are recognized from their format. For the rest, choose Canada Post from the carrier list in the app or on the tracking page.
Each scan is listed on a timeline with its date (and time, when the carrier provides one), and the overall status is summarized as one of six standard statuses.
Save the package to your list in the Kargo Radar app and you’ll get a notification on your phone when its status changes. Packages from other carriers sit in the same list.
Kargo Radar turns each carrier’s own status wording into six standard statuses, so packages from different carriers read the same way. Each event keeps the carrier’s own description in the history, or an English rendering for carriers that only report in their local language.
Claims at Canada Post belong to the sender. A receiver can open an inquiry about a missing package, but once it closes, the receiver has to go to the sender. Only the sender can start a compensation claim or an investigation of damage. If your package is damaged, keep the goods in their original packaging and take photos right away.
Start within 90 days of shipping for domestic packages, or 6 months for US and international ones, by opening a support ticket. Kargo Radar reads the tracking and nothing more, so it can’t open tickets or claim compensation.
Answers to common questions about Canada Post packages.
Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. Kargo Radar looks it up with Canada Post and lists every event with its date, time and place.
Often, yes. Enter the sender’s international tracking number on this page, which checks it with Canada Post. The Canadian part of the trip, such as customs and delivery, usually shows up there.
Canada Post usually scans a package when it’s mailed and again when it goes out for delivery, so several days can pass without a new event. International items can also wait for customs before the next scan appears.
Not every Canada Post service includes tracking. Canada Post says Small Packet, Letter-post, Registered Mail and International Parcel items sent to the U.S. or abroad have no tracking information or delivery confirmation. Also check that you copied the tracking number from your label or receipt.
Canada Post leaves a Delivery Notice Card, and the item waits for you at the designated post office. To collect it, you or a representative need one valid piece of government-issued photo ID. For parcels shipped to a post office for pickup and for FlexDelivery, Canada Post says items that aren’t picked up within 15 days go back to the sender.
FlexDelivery is a Canada Post service with a free, one-time online registration. You then use your FlexDelivery address as the delivery address when you shop online and pick the item up at the post office. If no one picks it up after 5 calendar days, Canada Post sends a Final Notice email and a phone message; after 15 calendar days, the item goes back to the sender.
