Swiss Post (Die Post) is the national postal operator of Switzerland. It delivers letters and parcels within the country and hands international mail over to the postal operator in the destination country.
Swiss Post Ltd is owned by the Swiss Confederation. On post.ch, Swiss Post offers its own tracking through Track & Trace and the “My consignments” page. For the 18-digit domestic numbers, Swiss Post’s handbook says the last eight digits are the item number itself. Kargo Radar shows the events in the Swiss Post record in English, along with a simple status summary.
Postal operators share scan data with each other, so for many international items the Swiss Post record also shows what happened after arrival in the destination country, such as customs and local delivery. Swiss Post notes that tracking abroad can’t be guaranteed for every destination country.
You’ll find the tracking number on the label, the shipping receipt or the shipping details the sender gave you. The examples below only show the format.

Two letters, nine digits and CH. The CH at the end means the number was issued by Swiss Post.
Example format
99.00.123456.12345678
An 18-digit number that starts with 99 (parcels and Express) or 98 (barcoded domestic letters such as Registered). You can type it with or without the dots.
In numbers ending in CH, the last digit is a check digit, so a single wrong digit usually makes the number invalid. Copy the number exactly as it appears on the label or receipt.
Numbers starting with 98 or 99 are recognized as Swiss Post. International numbers ending in CH are saved in the app as “International Post” and are still looked up with Swiss Post; the form on this page checks Swiss Post directly.
See where your package is in a few steps, and hear about it when the status changes.
Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. The form already has Swiss Post selected and takes you straight to the results.
Paste the number into the search box on the home page or into the Kargo Radar app, and the carrier is recognized from the number’s format.
Each scan is listed on a timeline with its date (and time, when the carrier provides one), and the overall status is summarized as one of six standard statuses.
Save the package to your list in the Kargo Radar app and you’ll get a notification on your phone when its status changes. Packages from other carriers sit in the same list.
Kargo Radar turns each carrier’s own status wording into six standard statuses, so packages from different carriers read the same way. Each event keeps the carrier’s own description in the history, or an English rendering for carriers that only report in their local language.
Common Swiss Post event descriptions and what they mean:
Swiss Post says the sender or the recipient can lodge an enquiry for a missing item, up to a year after mailing for domestic items and six months for international ones. Its pages differ on who starts an international enquiry, so ask Swiss Post or the sender. If you’re waiting for an item, first check your customer area, as it may have been left in your letter box or with a neighbor. You can also call +41 848 888 888.
Report damage within eight days of delivery, using the online form, the Post-App or a branch. At a branch, bring the item and its packaging. Kargo Radar has no access to those forms, so the enquiry has to come from you or the sender.
Answers to common questions about Swiss Post packages.
Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. Kargo Radar looks it up in Swiss Post’s tracking system and lists each event with its date and location.
Often, yes. Postal operators exchange scan data, so after “Arrival in destination country” the Swiss Post record often continues with customs and local delivery events. Swiss Post notes that this can’t be guaranteed for every destination country.
A newly registered item can take a little while to show its first scan. Also check that the number is complete: the last digit is a check digit, and invalid numbers can’t be looked up. If it still doesn’t show up, confirm the number with the sender.
Swiss Post gives 18-digit numbers starting with 98 to barcoded domestic letters such as Registered mail, and numbers starting with 99 to parcels and Express items. Kargo Radar looks up both with Swiss Post.
It’s the event Swiss Post records when the item is handed in, so it’s usually the first line of the record. For an item sent abroad, it’s typically followed by “Forwarding abroad” and “Arrival in destination country.” Events such as “Arrival at the processing/collection point” and “Sorting - forwarding” show the item passing through processing points before it’s “Delivered.”
Kargo Radar checks the Swiss Post record about once an hour, and every 20 minutes while the item is out for delivery, and can send you a push notification when the status changes. It doesn’t send e-mails, show where the courier is or show proof of delivery. Since Swiss Post says tracking abroad can’t be guaranteed for every destination country, a missing event abroad doesn’t always mean a problem.
