ELTA (Hellenic Post) is Greece’s national postal service and its universal service provider. It delivers letters and parcels in Greece and handles international mail.
ELTA was founded in 1828 by Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, and under Greek law it must provide the universal postal service until December 31, 2028. With more than 800 service points, it has the largest retail network in the country, and its group also includes the courier subsidiary ELTA Courier. ELTA also runs “PostBox” smart lockers that open with a PIN and work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except those in METRO and ISAP stations, which have set collection hours.
For items mailed to Greece from another country, ELTA’s tracking often shows the Greek part of the trip under the sender’s international number.
You’ll find the tracking number on the label, the shipping receipt or the shipping details the sender gave you. The examples below only show the format.

Numbers ending in GR are recognized automatically. For an item mailed to Greece from another country, choose ELTA yourself; the form on this page already has it selected.
See where your package is in a few steps, and hear about it when the status changes.
Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. The form already has ELTA selected and takes you straight to the results.
Paste the number into the search box on the home page or into the Kargo Radar app, and the carrier is recognized from the number’s format.
Each scan is listed on a timeline with its date (and time, when the carrier provides one), and the overall status is summarized as one of six standard statuses.
Save the package to your list in the Kargo Radar app and you’ll get a notification on your phone when its status changes. Packages from other carriers sit in the same list.
Kargo Radar turns each carrier’s own status wording into six standard statuses, so packages from different carriers read the same way. Each event keeps the carrier’s own description in the history, or an English rendering for carriers that only report in their local language.
To look for a tracked item that hasn’t been delivered, file a search request at any ELTA branch, up to six months after posting. ELTA’s consumer charter says it replies by registered letter within eight weeks.
A compensation claim must be in writing, within six months of the day after posting, with the original posting receipt. So keep that receipt safe. Kargo Radar can show you ELTA’s events, but a search request or claim has to come from you.
Answers to common questions about ELTA packages.
Paste your tracking number into the form on this page. Kargo Radar looks it up with ELTA and lists each event with its date, time and location, when ELTA gives one.
Often, yes. Enter the sender’s international tracking number on this page, which checks it with ELTA. The Greek part of the trip usually appears there.
ELTA shows this (on its Greek site: “Ιστορικό Μη Διαθέσιμο”) when it has no events for the number. The item may not have been scanned yet, or the number may have a typo. Items from abroad can stay blank until the sending post passes their data to ELTA or they reach Greece.
When your item is placed in a PostBox, ELTA sends a Viber or SMS message with a 6-digit PIN and the locker’s Google Maps location. Enter the PIN at the locker within 48 hours. After that, ELTA moves the item to the nearest ELTA store and sends you another message for collection there.
ELTA says the item goes back to the nearest notification store and is placed in that store’s PostBox, so you can collect it when it suits you instead of waiting at the counter. Items with extra taxes or duties to pay can’t be collected from a PostBox, and for international items the PostBox option depends on ELTA’s processing time.
